So! I'm back from my temporary muse-vacation with this. I think I'm happy with it.

[Edit]So, it was suggested to me that I add a little more light to this.. so, I tried adding a faint dawn-sun on the left mountain and then I added some light streaks throughout the image. You can sorta see them in the water I think.. I hope it worked! I also took away the 'red-sand' that I apparantly had.[/Edit]

Behind this image
What I originally wanted was a horse rearing behind the foal... almost as a ghost to represents the the foal's past. What I wanted it to mean was a horse with a new start. In her past life, many mistakes had been made and now, after her death, she has a second chance to redeem herself.

Well, that didn't work.

Instead, now, the foal, who is an inch from death, is suddenly given a second chance at life. The dawn symbolizes this.

I hope You understood all that, and that in the image, I made it work.

I think if you had a stronger light, like the sun rising and casting rays through the clouds/mountains/canyon, it might have even more of an impact. It would be subtle, but I think it would really set this image and the story on fire.
